Construction jobs, plant shutdowns, film and television shoots, installation and commissioning work. Cleveland gets a steady flow of projects that bring a crew in from out of town for weeks or months, and somebody has to decide where they all sleep.
What a crew actually needs
- A bed each, in a room each where possible, because a crew that sleeps badly works badly
- Parking for work vehicles, off the street
- A washer and dryer, because work clothes need washing more often than a hotel laundry service can manage
- A kitchen, so twelve hour days do not end in another drive-through
- Somewhere to sit together at the end of the day that is not a hotel bar
Where hotel rooms fall short
A block of rooms is easy to book, and for a week it is fine. Past that, the costs that do not show up in the nightly rate start to add up: every meal bought out, per diems stretched, laundry sent away or not done at all, and trucks parked wherever there is space.
It is also a lot of paperwork. Six people in six rooms can mean six folios to reconcile at the end of every week.
How houses change it
Our homes have three or four bedrooms each and sleep between five and eight. Every one has a full kitchen, parking off the street and a washer and dryer in the house. A crew of four to six fits in a single house, and a larger crew can be split across two or three.
However many houses a placement uses, it is handled as one arrangement, with one point of contact and one invoice. When the job runs over, which jobs do, you tell one person rather than rebooking six rooms.
Picking the part of town
Look at where the site is and work back from it. For work on the west side or downtown, Brooklyn Centre is about ten minutes from downtown. For the east side and the southeast suburbs, Maple Heights and Bedford Heights sit roughly twenty minutes from most of the city, which suits a crew moving between sites.
What to send us
- How many people, and whether any are sharing
- The start date and the likely finish, including how likely it is to run over
- Where the site is
- How many vehicles, and whether any are larger than a pickup
Send that through the quote form and we will come back with what is available and how it would split. Or call us on (216) 306-4821, 8am to 9pm, seven days.
