A midterm rental is the name the industry has settled on for a furnished stay of roughly one to six months. It is what you need when you are in Cleveland for a contract, a project, a relocation, a renovation or a season, and you are not going to sign a twelve month lease for any of them.
Who it is for
- Travel nurses and other clinicians on a contract
- People relocating for a job, while they look for somewhere permanent
- Households displaced from their own home by a claim
- Remote workers spending a few months near family
- Project teams and consultants on a fixed engagement
Why the thirty day mark matters
In Cuyahoga County, the county lodging tax applies to stays of fewer than thirty consecutive days. A longer stay is generally outside it. The rules have detail to them, so ask about it when you are quoted, but it is one reason a stay of a month or more can come out differently from one of three weeks.
What changes after the first month
A place that is perfect for a long weekend can wear thin by week five. The things that matter on a longer stay are rarely the ones in the photographs.
- A washer and dryer in the house, because a laundromat run every week adds up to a lot of evenings
- A kitchen equipped for cooking properly, not for reheating
- Storage for more than a suitcase: drawers, a wardrobe, a cupboard to put the empty bags in
- Parking you do not have to move for street cleaning
- Somewhere to sit that is not the bed
If you work from the house
Remote work changes the brief. A kitchen table is fine for a week of email and hard going for three months of video calls. Ask whether there is a desk, and whether it is in a room with a door.
Two of our homes are set up for it. The Brooklyn Centre house has a separate office space as well as a workspace downstairs, and the Maydale house in Euclid has a desk set up for anyone working from home. Both have Wi-Fi that is on before you arrive.
What to ask about the dates
Midterm stays have a habit of changing length. Contracts extend, closings slip, repairs take longer than the contractor said. Ask up front what happens if you need another month, and whether the place is booked by someone else the week after you are due to leave.
We let whole furnished houses across five Cleveland neighborhoods for nights, for months, or for as long as the work takes. Send your dates through the quote form, or call us on (216) 306-4821, 8am to 9pm, seven days.
